An antiquarian Thomasina Bateman is writing a publication on the barrows of England that documents the treasures she uncovers in. An intriguing letter prompts her to explore the tiny village of Bewlay in England’s remote countryside. She sets out by train with her assistant the next day.
The mysterious man that summoned her to her rescue is missing upon her arrival. Her assistant never arrives. A stubborn landowner refuses access to his barrow and even the residents are wary of this lady traveling alone in her own vehicle and (gasp!) wears trousers.
